Ductwork
HVAC ductwork is used with a forced air system—such as central air conditioning or a furnace—to circulate the air in your home. Ductwork is essentially a network of tubing that connects each room of your home to the furnace/air-handling unit where the air can be cooled or heated. To do this, the ductwork draws air in from the rooms in your home through the return ducts so it can pass through the furnace or evaporator coils to be heated or cooled, depending on the season. Then, it’s sent through the air supply ducts to be distributed back into the house.
Your HVAC ductwork is an incredibly important part of your heating and cooling systems and must be sized exactly right in order to work properly—too small and there isn’t enough room to circulate the right amount of air (imagine breathing heavily though a drinking straw), too big and there isn’t enough pressure to move the air (imagine trying to breathe forcefully through a paper towel roll). When your HVAC ductwork is properly installed, it can greatly increase the energy efficiency of your home.
