What Is Wrong with My Dishwasher?

The convenience of having a dishwasher is easy to take for granted—until it starts acting up. If something is wrong with this kitchen appliance in your home, it’s frustrating and inconvenient, especially as summer party season gets underway. After a fun night socializing with friends in the backyard, cleanup is much harder without a working dishwasher!

Dishwasher Trouble Shooting Tips

Experiencing problems with your dishwasher? Follow these troubleshooting tips before you call a professional for help:

Loud Operation

Odd noises can originate from several sources, including the pump, spray arm, heater fan, motor, and water inlet valve. If you hear any disconcerting noises, start by running an empty load to make sure the dishes themselves aren’t contributing to the sound. If the noisy operation continues, consider calling Arctic Air Conditioning to repair the problem before it gets any worse.

Puddle of Water on the Floor

You know your dishwasher is leaking when a puddle starts forming around it as it operates. Start by checking the door gasket. This soft rubber or vinyl seal can become brittle and cracked over time. Replace the gasket to repair a leaky dishwasher door.

If the door isn’t to blame, you may have a leaky plumbing connection somewhere. This is trickier to spot because the leak is located under or behind the dishwasher. You may be able to pull the dishwasher out and tighten any loose plumbing connections you find, but if you’re not successful, calling Arctic Air Conditioning for dishwasher repair.

Failure to Operate

A dishwasher that refuses to start could have a faulty door latch, so check this first. You may need to unscrew the inner door panel to access the latch assembly.

Other possible problems include a malfunctioning electronic control, selector switch, motor start relay, or thermal fuse. You need help from a qualified technician to repair these parts.

Dishes that Don’t Come Out Clean

First, check that nothing is obstructing the upper or lower spray arms. If the arms are loose and wobbly, tighten them. If debris is clogging the spray arm holes, soak them in hot water and remove debris from the holes with a paper clip or toothpick.

If your attempts to fix the spray arms have no effect, there could be a problem with the docking station, food chopper, water inlet valve, detergent dispenser, or another component. Arctic Air Conditioning can perform the repair you need.
