Why Is My Furnace Leaking?
Although spring is around the corner, we still have a few weeks of cold temperatures ahead of us so a properly working heating system is important! If you notice that your furnace is leaking, it could be due to a few things. No matter what the reason may be, it is helpful to work out where the problem might be coming from.
Troubleshooting for a Furnace Leaking Water
If your furnace is leaking, use this quick guide to figure out what the problem might be and what you can do to fix it.
- Overflowing Drain – If you notice that the condensation coming from your furnace is more like a river than a drip, you have a problem. Your condensation tubing may be clogged or cracked, or your drain could be clogged. If you have checked the floor drain and it’s not the culprit, it is best to call an expert to take a look at the condensation tubing.
- Water Around Your Furnace – If the drain is not the issue but you do have water pooling around your furnace, this could be due to a faulty secondary heat exchanger. It can be quite a complicated issue to have fixed, and it’s always best to call an expert on this one.
- Humidifier Leak – Is the water pooling around the outside of the unit? If you have a humidifier attached to your furnace, this could be the cause of the leak. Having regular service appointments can help prevent this issue!
- Leaking Furnace in Summer – If you notice leaking around your furnace during the warmer months, it could be due to an internal drain system clog. If your AC unit and furnace share an internal drain, water may be leaking into your furnace.
