Signs You Need to Replace Your Furnace
Replacing your furnace can be a big investment—but it’s one that can pay for itself in improved efficiency and reduced breakdowns over the years. If you think it’s time to replace your furnace, ask yourself the following questions:
Is your furnace more than 10 years old?
If you take care of your furnace and have it properly inspected each year, it’s very likely to last you 10 – 15 years. That said, if you start to experience furnace problems after about a decade, you may save more in the long run by replacing your aging furnace. A furnace replacement will not only leave your home with a new, properly working furnace that won’t cause any problems, but also one that’s light years ahead of your old one in terms of energy efficiency!
Are your heating bills going up?
If you’ve had your furnace for a while and you’re starting to notice your heating bills going up, call Arctic Air Conditioning for a furnace inspection. We can help you determine whether or not you need to replace your furnace, as well as how much money you could save with a new furnace. If the costs and savings add up, we can replace your furnace right away!
Do you need frequent furnace repair?
As furnaces get older they start to need more frequent repairs—this is especially true as they approach the last two or three years of their lives. If you find that you’re paying almost as much in repairs as you paid for the furnace in the first place, this is a good sign that you need a furnace replacement.
Is your home evenly heated?
One of the surest signs that a furnace is about to quit on you is uneven heating between the different rooms in your home. If you have certain rooms in your home that are really hot while others are much colder, you could have one of two problems: either your ductwork is leaky and needs to be sealed or your furnace can no longer move heat effectively through your home. Whatever the problem is, call Arctic Air Conditioning! We can take a look at your heating system and recommend the most effective next steps.
What color is your burner flame?
The burner flame on your furnace should be blue—this indicates that your furnace is completely burning all of the fuel it’s being fed. A yellow or orange flame indicates an incomplete burn, which means more than just inefficient heating—it also means that the furnace is producing potentially dangerous levels of carbon monoxide. Other signs of carbon monoxide production are streaks of soot around the furnace, no upward draft in your chimney, rust on pipes and jacks, excessive moisture on windows, walls, and other cold surfaces, and water leaking from the base of your chimney, vent, or flue pipe. Carbon monoxide is extremely hazardous, potentially fatal, and if your furnace is producing it, you need to have it repaired or go for full on furnace replacement immediately.
Is your furnace making strange noises?
Strange noises, such as banging, popping, rattling, or squealing, usually indicate that your furnace has reached the end of its lifespan. In addition, if you can hear your blower fan running constantly, this is a sign that you might need a furnace replacement.
If you’ve been experiencing any of the above symptoms and think you might need a furnace replacement, call Arctic Air Conditioning today!
