Central Heating System
A central heating system is an HVAC system that supplies the heat throughout the building from one single source via a network of ducts. Central heating systems, such as furnaces and heat pumps, are some of the most popular HVAC systems available.
Here’s how a furnace works as central heating system:
- The return ducts carry air from the rooms of your home into the blower.
- The blower fan pushes the air upward into the plenum and then the air handling unit where it passes through the heat exchanger. This is where the air gets heated.
- The heated air is pushed into the supply ducts by the blower fan and is redistributed into the rooms of your home through the registers (or vents). It often takes multiple cycles of this process to warm the air in your home, but it all has to pass through the one, central furnace.
